We have seen a fierce and exciting shower of car design at Yanko Design in 2022. Each car was innovative, giving us something we had never seen or experienced before. From extreme speed to great looks, to impenetrable safety standards, every car we featured at YD broke a design barrier for us, and hopefully they did the same for you too. That’s why we’ve curated a collection of car designs that we feel were the best of the lot in 2022. From an exciting Apple Car 1 concept to a Cybertruck-inspired Tesla Model M bike, each of these drool-worthy cars is pushing relentlessly. the limits of the automotive industry. Car enthusiasts will be itching to get their hands on them and take them for a spin on the streets!
1. Model M
The Model M is designed with the tight urban spaces in mind, so the removable handlebar makes complete sense. The electronic support makes it easy to park the ride without any problems. When it comes to adventure escapades, the Tesla Model M has your needs covered. Just where the gas tank is on traditional bikes, there is a removable bag with its own battery that powers the lights and multimedia system. The bag comes with its own start/stop system which acts as a theft deterrent.
2. Fordzilla Hypervan
This dune buggy, called the Fordzilla Hypervan, takes its general inspiration from the reptiles. The matte black color it’s draped in is a clear sign of the Godzilla design influence. If you see the typical Batmobile influence, you’re not alone! The presence of matte orange shades on the outside and inside accentuates the ride’s sharp character. The battery on the back indicates its rear-wheel drive origins, and therefore a better balance and handling. The Hypervan gets all glass doors that are gullwing, and look absolutely gorgeous. These doors are an extension of the windscreen and the panoramic glass roof which gives a feeling of airiness to the four-wheeler.
3. WAYRA EV-03
The WAYRA EV-03 electric cruiser motorcycle is a 100 percent no-gimmick concept that will please all types of riders – be it a cruiser enthusiast, performance lover or off-road fanatic. The WAYRA EV-03 is a bike with a lot of personality, built with the heritage of fat bikes and cruiser-length bikes in mind, while incorporating the minimal eye-catching modern touches to create visual appeal. The presence of café racer aesthetics cannot be denied either due to the rider’s low positioning. The drag racing element is evident thanks to the stretched rear end, but the high ride height also gives off that dirt bike racer vibe.
4. Muji Honda MS01 electric bike
Meet the Muji Honda MS01 electric bike inspired by the MUJI H-Type bike. The black and white theme on this one is a testament to MUJI’s soft style – in fact, the company’s artistic director Kenya Hara did most of the design part of the bike herself. All the equipment and power of the MS01 comes from the house of Honda. It’s a very balanced collaboration, resulting in this minimalist two-wheeler ideal for city tours and beyond.
5. Citroën La 2 Deuche Concept
The legendary 1945 Citroën 2CV often referred to as the Umbrella on Wheels had a fixed profile convertible body and roll-back sunroof. To revive the nostalgic memories of this economical family car, designer Jean Louis Bui has written an electric concept in a modern avatar. Called the Citroën La 2 Deuche Concept, this cheeky minivan has a sense of airiness. The retro DNA of the vehicle is visible in the section above the wheels, the headlights and the accordion-like roof that turns it into a convertible.
6. Yamaev’s tricycle scooter
Designed by Alexander Yamaev, this strangely eye-catching three-wheeled scooter concept comes with a rectangular side profile that cuts through the air like a credit card swipes through a payment machine, and a unique wheel setup with a massive front wheel surrounding the scooter’s transparent bubble-shaped cockpit, and two rear wheels that separate at low speeds for stability and unite at high speeds for maneuverability. The ideas presented by Yamaev’s concept are certainly radical, with a design so groundbreakingly unique that it would make the Cybertruck look dated.
7. Volvo EV
Created as a weekend project by the designer, this sustainable vehicle design is surprisingly rooted in a phone doodle inspiration. The typical electric car aesthetic comes into view in the form of a sharp, edgy design language. The hood of the car has a geometric pattern that gives it a sci-fi appeal, and the rear has a typical square persona. Right from the headlights, the side profile to the rear lights and the roof rack all have a definitive geometry. The designer has kept the widebody stance of this Volvo very forward, suggesting its dominant road presence.
8. The Apple Car 1 concept
The Apple Car 1 concept is yet another iteration of the Cupertino giant’s most anticipated project to date that is longing to be completed. The core idea of Apple’s concept car gravitates around a minimalist and elegant shape. This Magic Mouse likeness is deliberate, defining the flowing lines of the next-generation car that will most likely be an advanced self-driving vehicle. The Magic Mouse inspiration gives the Apple Car 1 a falling movement front and back for balanced volume. Another inspiration comes from Airpods Pro for an increased feeling of power and dominance on the road – hence the bulging wheel section for a muscular profile and overall contrast.
9. The Polestar CP1 concept
The Polestar CP1 concept is a culmination of the Polestar motorcycle of the future with a performance similar to today’s gas powered bikes. The brainchild of Lukasw Wenzhöfer takes shape as a sympathetically realistic version of the Polestar sports bike you’ll see unless another designer envisions it better. Like its four-wheeled counterparts, this Polestar EV bike has a very geometric, edgy design. The high driving position reinforces the ride’s performance status supported by the high-quality suspension system. The focus in this design is on ergonomics and functionality. So, the great looks aren’t just for the eye candy factor, but rather for a defined shape that makes complete practical sense.
10. Ford Mustang 2024
The 2024 Ford Mustang is here with a toned muscular look (it looks like the four-wheeler got a workout) and tech-infused interior. The bodywork is now more angular and loses some of its contours, confirming the appeal of the new generation. Of course, the 2024 Mustang retains the attractive proportions of its predecessors, and that’s a big relief. The front end is inspired by the original Mustang with a more square aesthetic. It contrasts with the headlights with tri-bar LED elements and the three-bar taillights which are even more prominent now. The rear overhang is now shorter and the hips are slightly wider for that sex appeal.
