Since its inception in 1976, Apple has always been at the forefront of modern innovation! And let’s take a moment to appreciate all the amazing products and inspiration Apple has given us. The pioneering tech giant never fails to surprise us, we are always biting our nails and buzzing with curiosity every time Apple announces a new product launch! Their ingenious and fascinating designs and design philosophy have inspired and influenced designers all over the world, resulting in some pretty unique Apple-inspired designs. And we encountered some pretty amazing Apple-inspired concepts in 2022! From a foldable iPhone that Apple didn’t announce during the keynote, but they should have, to an Apple Car 1 concept that embodies the brand’s award-winning design philosophy and an exciting self-driving feature – these impressive designs are the best of the lot and a dream for any Apple lover. We can only hope that Apple converts these into a reality in 2023!
1. iPhone iFold
Meet the iPhone iFold, a foldable concept from the mind of Michal Dufka. The iPhone iFold (although Apple will probably call it the iPhone Dynamic Clamshell) follows the format of the MotoRAZR and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, with a clamshell-style folding design that gives you the benefit of a compact iPhone with a generously sized screen. This is the first iPhone to have two screens. With a smaller screen placed right next to the camera bump, the iPhone iFold lets you access important stats and notifications without opening the phone. A bit like having the convenience of an Apple Watch, this secondary screen gives you the gist of what’s going on.
2. Apple Car 1 concept
The core idea of Apple’s concept car gravitates around a minimalist and elegant shape. This Magic Mouse likeness is deliberate, defining the flowing lines of the next-generation car that will most likely be an advanced self-driving vehicle. The Magic Mouse inspiration gives the Apple Car 1 a falling movement front and back for balanced volume. Another inspiration comes from Airpods Pro for an increased feeling of power and dominance on the road – hence the bulging wheel section for a muscular profile and overall contrast.
3. Apple Watch Series X
Titled the Apple Watch Series X, this quirky concept gives you a smartwatch with a bigger foldable screen, so you can use it like a de-facto iPhone. After all, your watch can make phone calls, right? The Apple Watch Series X is your standard foldable, in the sense that it comes with a primary display on the front, and opens like a book to reveal a “bigger” secondary display on the inside. Obviously, I’m using the word “bigger” quite loosely, considering how small the form factor of the Apple Watch is, to begin with. Designed to sit on the wrist, this foldable concept turns the square WatchOS interface into a more traditional landscape interface, unlocking the ability for many common apps to make their way onto the wristwatch, including better Netflix and YouTube viewing experiences.
4. Kim’s Apple glasses concept
The Apple Glass prototype that we’ve seen fluttering around the internet is currently believed to have a plastic frame. However, Apple could think of something that Eunho Kim has conceived in his concept: A removable metal frame that attaches to the frame of the round glasses. As we learn, Apple will place a LiDAR scanner on the right temple, and the clip-on arm could take some fixing. Still, since Apple is reportedly refraining from using any other camera on the glasses, it might be an option to consider.
5. The Apple car
Meet the Apple Car, from the mind of an AI. Designed by Dall-E 2 based on a text message from designer, educator and YouTuber John Mauriello, this Apple car is fascinating for two main reasons – the design of the car itself, but more importantly, the underlying AI technology that ended up creating the car. The origin of this idea came from Marques Brownlee’s own efforts with the DALL-E 2. In a YouTube video, Brownlee demonstrated how typing the words “Apple Car” resulted in a car that looked like the apple fruit.
6. Apple AirPods Pro 2022
In line with leaks and speculation about Apple’s upcoming flagship earbuds, designer Konstantin Milenin has created this concept AirPods Pro 2022 model to give our imaginations tangible form. The stemless design of the audio accessory looks minimal and compact. The charging case also gets a flatter design to accommodate these small earbuds. Unlike the current version, these lie flat on the stomach like a clam design, and do not have an upright position. This will mean much less space to store them in your pocket or keep them in your bag.
7. Full screen Apple MacBook concept
This different type of Apple MacBook will, Antonio defines, support TouchID (as a slider), a trimmed version of FaceID and a lovely AirPen to scribble neatly on the generously large screen. The all-screen foldable Mac may lack a physical keyboard, but the design here allows you to choose to pull up a digital keyboard with haptic feedback for that real typing feel. Fanboys may relish the idea of an all-screen MacBook, but there’s little denying the fact that such a device would have dual uses. An iPad role to play when folded and a full laptop when open.
8. iPhone V
This modded iPhone folds in half and is called the iPhone V. In addition to the folding feature, the modder has managed to keep the phone quite authentic by running iOS, and a screen as good as the Retina display. It’s an interesting concept that, however, underpins the fact that foldable phones with more screen real estate look good, but only if the folding mechanism and thickness can be perfected.
9. Apple Car AVA
The Apple Car concepts we’ve come across have ranged from practical to downright wacky. This is located in the former pool with its exquisite design. The designer envisions the concept for the year 2026, so it’s not far off from the rumored timeline. The AVA concept features the familiar contoured silhouette at the corners, and the streamlined flowing aesthetic associated with the Apple product range; especially the current flagship iPhone 13. The balanced aerodynamic front and rear of the four-seater sedan looks mildly attractive and very practical.
10. Apple Magic Charger
The Apple Magic Charger looks a bit like the iPhone Lightning Dock, and is based on a metal stand that has a metal puck integrated into the square edge. The device is likely to be made of anodized aluminum while the round charging area is rubberized. Interestingly, the aluminum stand allows the charger to slide into a vertical position to charge the connected iPhone. Reportedly, and as suggested by the available images, the Magic Charger was designed to hold the connected iPhone upright and in a horizontal position; perhaps this usage limitation may have been a reason why the magic was never made outside Apple’s production lines!
